State Tournament Match Times (First Match Singles and Doubles)_

Team-

Starting times are now posted on the Oregon Racquetball website, here’s the link.  Please get used to checking this website this week for match results.
Please note that this list shows the first match for each division you are entered.  For subsequent matches, you’ll need to check the draw sheets to see when your next match is; it obviously depends on whether you win or lose your first matches.

Also be sure to note whether your match is at Beaverton YMCA (noted on schedule as “YMCA”) or at MAC
Beaverton YMCA is at 4965 SW Griffith Dr., Beaverton, just east of Beaverton Fred Meyer and near Beaverton City Hall.

State Start Times - you can also check on the team tab for state championships.

I’ve checked this list, and have confirmed that start times are consistent with info given to me by each player (i.e. no one is scheduled during a time they told me they are not available. I personally entered the “time avoidances” into the tournament software, so I’m confident that the avoidances are correct… if not, you know who to bark at J )

Please contact me if you have any questions about match times.  I’ll be at YMCA on Wed & Thursday nights, since those are the players that will need most assistance with draws.

This is a big week !!  GO CARDS !!!  And of course good luck with your finals this week !

3 Days Until State Tourney

Team-

OK, the big event is almost here.  Coaches fully understand that most players will be studying on Monday & Tuesday in preparation of finals.  However, if you are doing well on your studying and would like to practice some racquetball, you can come to practice Monday and/or Tuesday from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.  Although there is a Doubles Tourney going on at MAC, there will be 4 or 5 courts we can use.

Starting Times for HS States - will be available after noon on Tuesday.  Look for an e-mail from me when they are ready.  Please know that I've ensured that the tournament director knows which times you have told me you are unavailable to play during finals, so we are working around it the best we can.

Everyone study hard, good luck with your finals, and look forward to taking out your aggressions on a racquetball later in the week !

Good luck with finals everyone !!

Rankings have been updated after League Match #4. Check your team page for your current ranking.
Final team results will be announced Sunday January 30 following the State Championships.

High School Championships - Volunteers Needed

Team-

Thanks in advance for your patience with my e-mails…. There is a lot of info to be communicated during this time of the season.  We would not have a HS Racquetball League at all if it were not for all the volunteer coaches, parents, etc… That being said, this is the time of the season where I really need some parent volunteer assistance.

Following is a list of eleven "Volunteer Slots" that have been assigned to Lincoln by High School League, for HS State Championships that begin next week.
Please let me know if you can cover one of the volunteer time slots listed below.
We will also be looking for volunteer referees (adults or kids who know basics of racquetball) on Wed & Thursday nights (5-8 pm), to referee for Lincoln students who need to get home to study for finals.
Please let me know if you can help in this way.

If you are volunteering for a time slot, please e-mail me your cell phone # and home phone # so I can put it on our volunteer list.

NOTE: Without question, volunteers who are working a shift when their student(s) are scheduled to play will be able to take a break to watch the match. Volunteers who are scheduled to work at one location with a student playing at the other location should notify coaches of potential scheduling conflicts in advance, and coaches should reach out to other volunteers within their schools to help cover that shift/portions of the shift.

Brief description of volunteer roles:
Information desk = Staff the desk where players/volunteers check in; answer player/parent questions; assist tournament staff as needed; schedule breaks among volunteers, etc.
* Bag corral = Check in/out players' bags; ensure that only volunteers access the corral area; etc. (there can be some downtime with this position, so volunteers may want to bring a book, etc.)
* Marshal = Continuously monitor student areas/viewing galleries to ensure all students/tournament guests are behaving courteously; make sure open courts get filled ASAP; etc.
* Parking monitor (YMCA only) = Make sure member parking areas are reserved for members only; instruct guests where to park (Note: We will rotate this job with marshals/rovers so volunteers are not outside for too long at one given time)
* Food service = Make sure snacks and drinks (to be provided by our food services chair/committee) are available at all times; remind students to keep this area clean; during the lunch and dinner sessions, additional volunteers are required to help unload/set out meals, monitor serving, clean up; etc.
* Rover = Pitch in where needed; help cover breaks, etc.
* Cleanup = Help make sure everything is cleaned up, put back and in excellent condition before students leave the club at the end of the night, etc.

Urgent - High School State Championship Information

Reminder- HS State Championships take place from Wed Jan 26 thru Sunday Jan 30.  Matches are scheduled after 5 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, and all day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

However, as has been the case in past years, the tournament takes place during Lincoln’s finals week (same for Beaverton).  But each year I coordinate with the Tournament Director, so that we schedule around our finals.  My expectation is that each player on the Lincoln HS Racquetball team will participate in this tournament; this tournament is the peak of our season, and for most of you, the season is done after this tournament.

This year, because our team is so large, we need to have players available to play one match on Wednesday evening (sometime between 5-8 pm), and one match on Thursday evening (sometime between 4-8 pm).  I ask that each player consider their finals schedule, and coordinate their study plans to allow for play for one match Wednesday and Thursday nights.  Also, I need to know which players have finals on Friday, so we can coordinate that as well.

Summary-  I need each player to e-mail their response to me by 8 pm Wednesday, January 12 to the following questions:

1.      Will you be playing in the tournament?
2.      Can you play one match on Wed and Thurs nights?
3.      What time are you done with finals on Friday?

We need a parent volunteer to represent the White team during the matches.  Scott will rotate to MAC and YMCA so that he can see each of the players play as much as possible.   The parent volunteer helps check in Lincoln players, and to just be present during the matches (don't worry you don't need to coach).  Please reply to this message if you can volunteer as parent rep for the White team on Saturday.

Keep in mind that the League Match lasts 4-5 hours.  Each player will play singles, and each team will have 1 Boys Doubles team, 1 Girls Doubles team, and 1 Mixed Doubles team.  So some players will only play singles.  All boys and girls singles matches will be played, then doubles matches will take place.  Each player will play 5-7 matches on Saturday.  I recommend bringing a power bar or similar, even though most clubs have snacks / food available for purchase.

More info to follow.

Match/Practice Notes - Week of January 9, 2011

Just a reminder that we have only 4 weeks left in the Lincoln RB season (except for those going to St. Louis).  Here are the remaining matches:
League Match #4 (Sat Jan 15) will be the final league match of the year before the State Championships (Thurs Jan 27 thru Sunday Jan 30.)  This is the high point and culmination of our season, and will be held at MAC and Beaverton YMCA.   This tourney actually starts Wed night, but I have arranged for our team to begin playing matches Thursday after school, since we have finals that week.  Players need to be prepared to play matches Thursday night, all day Friday and Saturday, and hopefully Sunday if you're still in the tournament.
We expect all Lincoln RB players to participate in the HS State Championships.
Please realize that with only 3 weeks until State Championships, it is extremely important that all players participate in remaining practices.  We will have practice this Sunday Jan 9 from 5-7 pm (except for players participating in this weekend's OJRA tourney).  There will be no practice on Monday, as we should all be busy rooting the Oregon Ducks to victory in the National Championship game !  We will have practice on Tuesday.

OJRA Sunset Tourney - Start Times Posted - Come watch if you're not playing

Please note that start times are posted on the tourney website now.  View it here.
This lists just the start time of the first match for each division. For subsequent matches, check the draw sheets posted at the tourney. Once the tourney starts, the draws and results will be posted on the website.
I'll be on site much of the time, and will be happy to help each of you understand the draws.
If you're not playing, come support the Lincoln players.
Good luck, have fun !!

Practice Schedule Week of January 2, 2011

Hope everyone had a great holiday and New Year.  Time to get back on the courts and work off the goodies!
We're back to our regular practice schedule this week:
  • Sunday 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm  (All players – not expecting full turnout, so not splitting teams)
  • Monday 7:00 – 8:30 pm  Black / White / Green teams
  • Tuesday 7:00 – 8:30 pm Blue / Gold / Red teams
If you are playing in next weekend's OJRA Tourney at Sunset AC, feel free to come to both practices and get as much practice in as possible prior to the tourney.
We'll see you tonight at 5 pm !!
